Film review prep
Scanning a 2-hour game file for the moments that matter used to take an assistant or a long evening. AI-driven clip detection now surfaces candidate plays — by athlete, by formation, by outcome — in minutes.
The coach still does the evaluation. What changes is the hours-to-insight ratio. A high school football coach who used to spend Sunday on film can spend 45 minutes on film and save the rest for planning practice.
Good use: AI clusters clips by situation; coach tags the ones that matter; coach builds the teaching session. Bad use: AI-generated “insights” about what the team should do next. The AI doesn’t know your athletes.
Trend spotting across a season
When you have 20+ athletes logging workouts, RPE, sleep, and game stats over months, the amount of data exceeds what any coach can eyeball. AI summarization turns the wall of numbers into a short readable briefing: “Three athletes showed a >15% training-load spike in the past 10 days; one has a 1.2-point RPE elevation with flat output; goalkeeper session volume is down 20% from last month.”
That briefing doesn’t tell you what to do — it tells you where to look. The coaching decision sits with the coach.
Admin writing
The part of coaching that burns the most off-field time is writing: evaluations, parent updates, coach-to-coach outreach, recruiting endorsements, post-game notes, season summaries. AI drafts these in minutes from the data and notes the coach has already captured.
The coach then edits for voice, correctness, and honesty. A two-page season-end evaluation that took an hour to write takes 10 minutes to review. Over a roster of 20 athletes, that compounds.
Good use: AI drafts; coach edits; coach signs. Bad use: AI auto-sends without review. The first time an AI draft hallucinates a stat or misattributes a game, the coach loses the parent’s trust and there’s no getting it back.
Data tagging and organization
Categorizing drills, tagging film by situation, labeling injuries by body region, linking related notes — these are clerical tasks AI does well and coaches hate doing. Every hour spent tagging is an hour not spent coaching. Hand this off.

Technique correction in real time

- Can I define what I want the AI to produce? (If you can write a sentence describing the output — “a ranked list of plays where #22 was the ball-carrier” — AI can probably help. If you can’t, the tool will impose generic output on you.)
