Power forward film study — coverage and concepts
Film study guides for power forwards covering ball-screen coverage from the screener perspective, help rotations, and offensive concepts.
Film study at power forward is heavily ball-screen-focused. The 4 sets and pops out of more ball screens than any other position in the modern game; the player who reads coverages from the screener perspective gets cleaner looks than the one who screens blind. The library here is organized ball-screen coverage first, help rotations second, offensive concepts third.
How to use this library
Start with ball-screen coverage recognition from the screener’s perspective — drop, switch, hedge, blitz, ICE. The 4 who reads the coverage at the screen knows whether to roll, pop, slip, or re-screen. Then move to help-rotation reads: weak-side tag, low-man, X-out. Then progress to offensive concepts — Spain action, double drag, horns sets, and other concepts that route through the 4.
Each guide includes the visual triggers and the screener-defender tells that tip you off to the coverage. Watch your own screen-and-roll film with these triggers in mind. The 4 who studies film pops into open looks; the 4 who doesn’t pops into the same defender every possession.
