Linebacker drills — by age group

Reading-keys, mirror, gap-fit, block-destruction, and tackling drills for linebackers from 8U through varsity, organized by age.

Linebacker development is sequential, not random. The drills here are organized so that the eye-discipline work — reading keys, mirror drills — comes first at every age, with physical drills layered on once the eyes are dependable. Skip the eye work and you are training a fast athlete to be in the wrong place; do it right and the same athlete is in position before peers even know which way the play is going.

How to use this library

Find your age group in the drill grid below. Start with reading-keys; that drill returns the most per minute spent. Add mirror drills next for foot quickness in space. Block-destruction and tackling form drills come third. Coverage drops are last in the rotation even though pass-heavy schemes show up first in highlight film — the rationale is in the linebacker pillar guide.

Every drill page below shows demo video clips, age-specific developmental notes, coaching points, and the most common mistakes coaches see at that level.
