Tight end film study — concepts and recognition

Film study guides for tight ends covering run-game concepts, intermediate route coverage recognition, and pass-protection identifications.

Tight end film study is wider than other positions because the role is wider. The tight end has to read defensive fronts to execute the right block, recognize coverage to win the route, and identify protection assignments to hold the pocket. The library covers all three.

How to use this library

Run-game concepts first — inside zone, outside zone, power, counter — and the corresponding tight-end blocking assignments. Then coverage recognition for the intermediate route tree (which is where most tight-end routes live). Pass-protection identifications come last but become critical at the varsity level.

Each guide identifies the visual triggers, the typical defensive responses, and the tight-end execution that matches each defensive look. Tight ends who study film catch up to their physical peers in production faster than any other position group — the cognitive load at the position rewards preparation disproportionately.
