Setter drills — by age group
Footwork-and-setting, decision-making, jump-set, dump, and right-side blocking drills for setters from 12U through varsity.
Setter drilling is layered. Hand mechanics first, footwork second, decision-making third, jump-set and dump fourth. Athletes who skip the order — usually because they want to run the offense before they can deliver a clean ball to a hitter — develop bad habits that cost them years to undo.
How to use this library
Find your age group below. Hand-mechanics work is the foundation at every level — the setter who has clean hands sets a hittable ball under pressure that the setter with raw hand strength and bad mechanics does not. Footwork-to-the-ball drills come next. Decision-and-tempo work comes once the physical fundamentals are established.
Each drill page covers the demo, the developmental notes for the age, the coaching points, and the most common mistakes. Setter drilling is best done with a coach who can spot small breakdowns in hand release and footwork; the athlete cannot feel a release that is half a beat late. Volume should always trail intent: 50 reps with full attention beat 200 reps with drift, every time.
