Defensive back drills — by age group

Stance, backpedal, hip-turn, press, tackling, and ball-skill drills for defensive backs from 8U through varsity.

Defensive back drills focus on hip fluidity and tackling form. Hip turn is the single most predictive trait for varsity success at the position; tackling form is the threshold issue — defensive backs who miss tackles give up touchdowns.

How to use this library

Hip-turn and tackling drills at every age — both are foundational and both reward repetition over a long horizon. Stance and backpedal drills layer on top. Press drills enter the menu in middle school for athletes who will play corner. Ball-skill drills (locating the ball in the air, attacking it at the highest point) become important from middle school onward.

Each drill page shows demo film, age-specific notes, coaching points, and common technique breakdowns. The film record at this position is unforgiving — missed tackles and beaten coverage stand out, and consistency wins playing time over flash.
