Defensive back film study — recognition and route concepts

Film study guides for defensive backs covering route stem reads, formation tells, quarterback tells, and run-pass conflict on RPO.

Film study at defensive back is about anticipating routes. The defensive back who recognizes a route concept based on the receiver’s first three steps is in position to make a play; the one who waits to see the route fully developed is reacting and trailing.

How to use this library

Route recognition first — stem reads, route concepts, the visual triggers that tell you where the receiver is going. Formation tells second — receiver splits, formation strength, motion, all of which reveal the play before the snap. Quarterback tells third (eye direction, footwork, shoulder turn). Run-pass conflict on RPO concepts comes last because it requires the other recognition skills as a foundation.

Each guide identifies the triggers and the corresponding defensive back technique. Watch your own film with these triggers and your recognition will improve measurably within a few games.
